Croque Monsieur Croissant Breakfast Bake
This Croque Monsieur Croissant Breakfast Bake is officially the star dish of the holiday season. Warm, cheesy, buttery with the perfect balance of salty and sweet, it's unbelievably easy to pull together when you're hosting, in the morning before opening presents or just enjoying a slow cozy morning at home. -Katherine
Ingredients-
- 5 croissants, sliced lengthwise
- 10 slices thin, high-quality ham
- 5 slices Swiss cheese
- 10 thin slices of Gruyere
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups of whole milk
- ½ teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
- ½ teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons of butter
Instructions-
- Prepare the custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Stir in the rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Assemble croissant sandwiches: Slice each croissant lengthwise. Fill with 1 slice of Swiss cheese and 2 slices of ham, crating sandwiches. Cut each sandwich into thirds.
- Soak and arrange: Dip each croissant sandwich piece into the egg mixture, letting the excess drip back into the bowl. Arrange the pieces snugly in a baking dish.
- Add cheese and ham: Tuck the Gruyere slices between the croissant pieces. Add the remaining 5 slices of ham throughout the dish. Pour any remaining egg mixture evenly over the top.
- Bake: Bake in a 350 Degree F preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until golden and the filling is set.
- Make honey butter: While baking, melt the honey and butter together in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Finish and serve: Brush the hot bake generously with the honey-butter mixture. Return to the oven for 5 minutes more. Serve immediately.
